eat, pray, love

I am so excited about this movie! Everytime I see the commercial promoting this movie, I get more excited. It is by far one of the best books I have read. I have nothing but high hopes for this movie! How could it be bad when Julia Roberts is in it! Can't wait, August 13th! And if you haven't read Eat, Pray, Love yet, trust me and go read it!!!

The Blank Wall

I have this blank wall that is driving me crazy in our kitchen! If you saw my last the post about our new apartment, then you are probably thinking that it's the only blank wall in the house! True, but I love a homey feel and I love cool stuff on the wall. I have a 2 ideas and I can't decide which one to do.

This is said blank wall! It needs life and color!!! This is unacceptable!
Here's idea number one! I have loved this pic of an outdoor drink station. Maybe my cute secretary desk will be used for this precious idea in a house one day, but for now I'm focusing on the framed chalkboard.

I like the idea of having a weekly menu in my kitchen.

But it would have to have a cute frame like this one around it!

My other idea is revolved around this! Manny and I bought this photo at the public market in Seattle. I thought about hanging this on the wall with some pics that I took of the market. Seattle is such a big part of us and I want to put this some where in my house! It needs a home too!

I took this pic of the public market sign in Seattle. I love it. It was by far my favorite place in Seattle. I could have gone there everyday and never gotten sick of it. There is always something different going on there!

I love this pic of the olive oil cans. They were so cute and colorful.

This is what you find in the market. Rows upon rows of colorful food!

See!

Not to mention they had cute handwritten signs. Some had some pretty clever sayings on them!

Garlic!

So those are my ideas. Should I do a cute chalkboard menu in a vintage frame or do a tribute to our Seattle time! Or I could fuse the two and hang some of my pics of Seattle on either side of the frame! Decisions, decisions!

Home Sweet Finally Texas Home

Manny and I have finally moved to Austin and are settled. My mom stayed for a week and helped me get organized and most importantly DECORATED! We only lack curtains in both the bedrooms! After that it will be done! Here are some pics of our new home!

This is our living room. You can see the ottoman that my mom and I made and the matching panels that my mom sewed for us! When you get home dec fabric for $5 a yard, you tend to put it every where!
Another view of the living room.

Cross wall. We decided to collect a cross from each place we have been. I write where we bought or who gave it to us on the back to remember.

This is our mantel. Manny had a little trouble with the window and the P at first. He loved it once we added more stuff. Plus he loves the ship next to the fireplace.

The ottoman/coffee table. We are really enjoying this!

Our cake topper found a home!

This is the dining area. The wall treatment is actually cardboard that I had a family friend cut out using a laser and then I spray painted them. You can also see the chairs that my mom got for $6 at a yard sale and I painted blue. We still need one more chair. Hopefully my mom will find something at The Longest Yard Sale.

This is the kitchen. I found great uses for my apothecary jars from the wedding. I got pasta and beans and filled them up and then put them on top of the cabinets in the kitchen.

Another view of the kitchen.

This is the master bedroom. We still need curtains and then our room will be done.

The amazing pillows my mom made. We got the fabric at High Fashion in Houston. I wanted peacock colors without having peacock all over our room.

Our dresser.

The bedrooms in the apt are huge! I had room for a sitting area in my bedroom. This is the chair that a bought at Round Top for $50 in college. At the time it was pink velveteen! The picture was made by my grandmother. The colors go great!

I also had room to put that great secretary desk that I bought in Seattle. I got the chair at the city wide garage sale in Austin and recovered the seat.

This is the bulletin board that my mom and I made that sits over my desk in the bedroom. We got the old window at Atkins in Houston. My mom sewed together scraps of fabric leftover from the pillows. I love love love it. It is my favorite thing in the room.

This is the master bathroom. I found another way to use an apothecary jar! I got the potpourri at Pottery Barn. I got the decorative towel at Marshall's for $7!

This is the guest bedroom. This quickly became a fusing of mine and Manny's stuff. The art work Manny bought overseas. They went great with the bedding.

This bedroom is huge too! Luckily, we needed a place to store our books! We also need curtains in here and this room will be done!
Guest bathroom.

Guest bathroom again.

a little goes a long way

We went over to Alicia's a few weeks ago to set up baby Anna's room. When I got there my mom had bought these cute chairs for $6 TOTAL! I'm going to use them as kitchen table chairs with some others and mix and match them. I got some slate grey/blue paint at Home Depot and done! We are packing up everything this evening in our huge U-Haul and will be moving tomorrow!!! I'll post pics once the apartment is decorated!

a soft place to land your feet!!!!

Manny and I are moving to Austin this weekend so of course I have a ton of projects!!! I wanted to make an ottoman/coffee table. My mom had this old table in storage. We sanded down all the layers of paint and stained it. We also found this awesome fabric for $5 a yard at Hancock's. We ended up buying 8 yards! We are going to make curtains too!!!
Here are the before and after pics. I have another project that I will post tomorrow! It's still drying!!!

This is the table before.

This is the after! I love love love it!
